Charged Blade is my favorite weapon and that all looked perfect. Reminds me of how satisfying it is to hit a fully charged ace combo and how heartbreaking it is to miss one.

I had hoped we would get some of the new moves that were introduced in Rise, so I'm very happy we're seeing several of them integrated into the game!
I'm still not very sure I understand the focus mode, as it seems to be some sort of tool to make the game more accessible, but since I really dislike the camera focusing on the monster, I can only assume I will still be able to perform these moves, without actually locking the camera to the monster?

if i were to guess from the reticle shown during focus mode, it works just like how you would do a clutch claw in World, except you perform a weapon attack instead of launching your clutch claw

My impression is that focus mode is basically a stance you drop in and out of freely by holding down a button, and when you're in said mode, you trade out mobility for increasingly fine grained control of atttacks and precise aiming of them. The accessibility elements just seem to be letting you see the weak points and similar on monsters while in it.

I hope focus mode is a replacement for tenderizing or whatever it's called from Iceborne that I disliked so much.

I always get a lil cautious when the main team tries to innovate.
Thats usually how we get weird stuff like swimming and tenderizing. Hopefully focus mode is fun, doesn't seem too disruptive to the flow of gameplay like the latter anyway.

Of the various innovations since Tri... 4's addition of mounting is probably the best overall. World's slinger is okay but half the time it feels like it's not really any different from just having items in your pouch (and the mandatory slinger model hurts fashion), scoutflies don't really do much besides save on paintballs (and ruin fashion with those ugly cages), and tenderizing/clutch claw was a mistake... Iceborne was basically just perma-rage from wallslams, tenderizing, etc. and I hated that nonsense.
For the portable team stuff... I think Rise just giving you the monster location and the mobility of wirebugs with weapons sheathed are largely improvements over their equivalents in World, but spiribugs are just makework. Wirefall was a mistake. Hunter styles were a good idea, but switch skills are probably the better implementation with how dumb some stuff like Valor was. Hunter arts/silkbinds are a good concept that have wildly varying levels of power, but some of them are so cool I don't care (Soaring Wyvern Blade). Riding monsters in Rise probably takes mounting a bit far in terms of power, with how it always led to dragging in other monsters for tons of free damage etc.
I think a lot of the attempts at changes are more miss than hit. Switch skills and the basic mounting of 4/Generations are some of the best additions they've done (the wallslams of World and riding of Rise can go away, simple mount>knockdown as an additional form of control weapons can stack up in addition to how blunt weapons go for exhaust/ko is better imo)

All I want to know is whether World is going to end up being the weird design-breaking offshoot by being the only game after Generations to not have an equivalent to styles and arts.
I may have just a tiny bit of pent-up bitterness towards the World community still left over.

Wait, why are you bitter towards the community?
And it's very very unlikely Wilds will have a Style/Art equilvent. It might, but it's unlikely. Simply because Generations and Rise/Sunbreak were the same team, and were the the "End of generation" games for the Fourth & Five gen of monster hunter games, which is when they pull out the stops and go nuts. Earlier that meant just cramming as many monsters as possible into the game, but it's evolved to really pushing the limits of what can be don in the games in the end of generation games. Then the good stuff that really worked gets rolled into the next game (EG, Dual Blades kept some of the aerial style stuff, SnS got the shyrukenathinggy worked into itg's base kit, both in world - and now Hammer's got the dodge and keep your charge skill from Sunbreak as a base skill in Wilds)

It's mostly just annoyance at people claiming that Generations was a side-game while World was the normal progression of the series. It's actually the opposite, Generations was a fairly conservative clone of 4 with a few extra mechanics tacked on (just as 4 was to Tri), while World was the one where they went crazy with changing everything.
If the mechanics that Generations added become a normal part of the series, that means that I've retroactively conclusively won that argument. I know it matters even less now than the very little it did at the time, but I still want that victory for nostalgia's sake.

I picked up monster hunter in Tri. Played World/IB, Rise/SB, and then MHGU. The systems most people complain about and really don't want back (swimming, spiribirds, flinch shots) I've never really been too bothered about.
That said one missed opportunity that spans every iteration I've played: undesirable and/or useless armor skills and by extension a massive array of 60-90% of armor pieces or sets never being crafted except for the sake of completionism.

I never felt this stronger than in Rise! I'd be progressing through the game and unlocking new armors, but nothing was of use to me, not even because I was maining 3 weapons at once.
There were even some skills that felt OK to use in World that I'd justify trying to slot them in somehow, but in Rise got nerfed to the point that I don't know why they even exist.

I thought about watching these videos.
But then, I'm buying this game anyway so maybe I just go into it completely fresh.
The only question I have is this: Am I going to be boring and do greatsword yet again? Or will I get spicy.

I'm pretty sure there has been some kind of super dodge/counter for every weapon I watched a video of. I don't really mind that. Otherwise if most of the weapons are mostly unchanged it's just going to be long sword and bow being super OP by comparison again. This looks a lot more like one of those "everyone gets to be OP" kind of things. I just hope it doesn't get to the point where you basically HAVE to chain the parries to even fight some bosses, which I have a feeling will be the only way to fight the eventual g-rank stuff.

I'm probably gonna swap between em and Greatsword. I fell out of love with Greatsword in rise due to the speed increases and loss of the SLinger for re-aiming, but that looks to mostly be fixed here... and Duals have always been my main love in these games.

Ima definitely gonna take the same approach I took in Worlds - primary dual blades and secondary lance.
Those two don't look that different in Wilds from how they played in World which I'm just fine with.

After making LS since I started on PSP, I finally picked up Heavy Bowgun in MH World. Then Light Bowgun in Rise. And I'll probably main Bow in Wilds, the video sold me on it.

I know I'm just gonna play nearly all of the weapons, there's no reason to pretend I'm going to do otherwise. Probably with a slight bias towards the lances, but I do love pretty much everything else, too. I do want to pick something to start with until I get far enough in the game that it's reasonable to make multiple weapons, though. Right now I'm leaning towards either Switchaxe or Sword & Shield, but I could change my mind before the game releases.
I think Bow might be the video that impressed me the most, but I never dip into the ranged weapons (or Greatsword) until I feel like I know what I'm doing.

I really have no idea what I'll end up using here. I'm assuming a lot of the fun switch skill stuff isn't going to be here, which means no Sacred Sheathe LS shenanigans, and I used Lance heavily for LR/HR Rise (and also, no shield charge for that either I assume...)
At this point GS is about the only thing I've never really gone heavily into, but...
